Cheating Cheaters and AI

📰 AI IN THE NEWS

Cheating with AI is one of the most common concerns I hear when I talk to folks. This week I respond to the Wall Street Journal's coverage of the same issue.

🖊 ON MY WRITING DESK

Chapter 1 is coming to a close (for now). I reflect on what introductions mean to me, as a writer.

🎨 ON MY PAINT DESK

Global AI and He-Man

📰 AI IN THE NEWS

What happens when you break AI on purpose? How should you report it, and what are the consequences? This week I discuss a WIRED article that tackles that question as well as the regulating AI.

🖊 ON MY WRITING DESK

What is a mundane technology? (It's one that you don't notice when you use it.) In Authenticating Intelligence I argue that it's necessary for technologies to become mundane before they become truly useful. This week I discuss how I continue to refine this argument in my introduction.

📖 AI SCHOLARSHIP

A recent publication investigated policies across 40 universities in six global regions. The global perspective is important—we can always learn from approaches taken by our neighbors.

🎨 ON MY PAINT DESK

I tackled panting a He-Man "mini" that was more of a biggie this week. I also share how the "miniature" painting hobby includes many different scales of figures.

🖊 ON MY WRITING DESK

A bit of history. I discuss how I transitioned from being a middle school teacher, to a philosopher, to working for EdTech—and why it matters.

📖 AI SCHOLARSHIP

Thinking about thinking? Why don't mind if I do. This week I discuss "metacognition" and its relationship to AI.

🎨 ON MY PAINT DESK

Two projects moving forward. Still working on skin, and adding color to my forest scene.

Snake Oil?

📰 AI IN THE NEWS

This week I was quoted in an article published by the LA Business Journal that focused on the idea of an "EdTech resurgence." Is there such a thing? Yes and no—it depends on how you define "resurgence."

🖊 ON MY WRITING DESK

I've begun work on my introduction (Chapter 1). In it, I will explore what it means to be intelligent when human and machine contributions are increasingly indistinguishable from one another.

🎨 ON MY PAINT DESK

I spent this week building a scene on a plinth. Tentatively titled Retribution, it tells a story of loss and...well, retribution.

PhD students should not view themselves as traditional students, as focusing too much on grades can hinder their growth as researchers. I share a video that examines these challenges and offers solutions for new PhD students.
